Shooting Holidays in Ireland. The Knowledge.

Rough shooting for snipe, woodcock and duck

Ireland is traditionally a sporting country with a particularly plentiful stock of migratory game wildfowl. On a typical days shooting you may encounter, woodcock, snipe and duck, wild birds whose presence depends on prevailing weather conditions. This type of shooting does not suit guns looking for big bags and it is impossible to predict game numbers in advance.

Fitness
Walking up snipe and woodcock on heather bogs is tiring and requires a reasonable level of fitness so is not suitable for people with certain heath conditions e.g. any one who is seriously overweight, have heart conditions, high blood pressure, bad backs , knees or problems with their ankles, or have any sort of walking difficulty. If in doubt consult your GP beforehand.

Safety
Safety is always of paramount importance and all shoots have high levels of safety standards. Guns that shoot dangerously will be reprimanded and possibly sent home without re-imbursement. Please note all clients must have their own insurance.

Q: Is firing a gun going to hurt my shoulder/ears etc.

A: No, it won't if you follow the advice of our professional instructor. There are guns for ladies which are also lighter weight 20 bore guns with less recoil. We also provide ear defenders.

Q: Do I need any experience?

A: Some experience is advisable before rough shooting. We can recommend an hour or two clay shooting with an instructor before engaging in a live shoot to master the basics. However, we can cater for absolute beginners, but to get the most out of a shooting holiday some practice is best. (See Great British Shooting Breaks for a place to spend some time practicing with clays.)

Q: What qualifications do our instructors have?

A: Instructors have CPSA (Clay Pigeon Shooting Association) recognised qualifications.

Q: Do I need insurance?

A: Yes, absolutely. Although highest levels of safety are implemented it is advisable to check with your travel insurance provider that you are fully covered.
